If you are already running Windows Vista, then you can choose to "upgrade" to Windows 7 and you will keep all your pictures, music, and other data in place. Certain programs however, may need to be updated and/or reinstalled. If you are still using Windows XP, you will need to do a "clean install" which means you need to backup any important data because it will all be erased and your PC will be like new.
